America does not belong to a political party. It does not belong to a president, a corporation, a movement, or the loudest people in the room.

It belongs to the American people.

I am running for President because I believe our government has lost sight of a very basic obligation: it should make it possible for ordinary people to build a decent life without having to fight the system every step of the way.

Our government should be strong enough to protect our rights, defend the country, educate our children, maintain the things we share, enforce fair rules, and help people when circumstances are bigger than any one person can reasonably handle. But that power must always remain bounded by the Constitution and accountable to the people who gave it authority in the first place.

I do not believe freedom and responsibility are enemies. I do not believe safety requires surrendering liberty. I do not believe justice has to abandon mercy, or that progress requires us to forget the people who are struggling to keep up.

That is what I mean by One World Balance.

It is not a promise that everyone will have the same life. It is a promise that we will stop designing a country where some people are pushed so far down that they cannot reasonably get back up.

We should be able to ask simple questions of every major policy: Is it lawful? Is it understandable? Is it fair? Can it actually be carried out? Does it protect individual freedom while recognizing our responsibilities to one another? And does it leave the American people stronger than they were before?

I am running as an Independent because I do not believe either political party owns the presidency, the Constitution, morality, patriotism, or the American people. Good ideas do not become bad because they came from the wrong side of an aisle, and bad ideas do not become good because our own side proposed them.

My administration would put the Constitution before personality, competence before political loyalty, evidence before rumor, and the interests of the American people before the interests of a party.

America needs to remember who it is supposed to serve.

And then we need to get to work.
